Homecoming Week

This week is Homecoming week. In celebration of homecoming, we will watch a movie that is connected to out current topic. But you will have a choice in deciding what we watch. Our last topic was the Triangular Trade and slavery. So our two movies will both deal with slavery.

The movies you have to choose from are: Amistad and Amazing Grace.

Amistad was made in 1997 by Steven Speilberg

In 1839, the slave ship Amistad set sail from Cuba to America. During the long trip, Cinque (Djimon Hounsou) leads the slaves in an unprecedented uprising. They are then held prisoner in Connecticut, and their release becomes the subject of heated deb

Amazing Grace was made in 2007 and centers around the debate to end slavery in the British Empire.

In 18th-century England, House of Commons member William Wilberforce (Ioan Gruffudd) and his close friend and a future prime minister, William Pitt (Benedict Cumberbatch), begin a lengthy battle to abolish Great Britain’s slave trade. Though Wilberforce’s legislation is soundly defeated in 1791, his growing affection for Barbara Spooner (Romola Garai) inspires him to take up the fight once more.
